Auburn, Ala. - The City of Auburn Department of Public Safety is currently accepting applications for the 2014 Citizens’ Public Safety Academy. The program, which begins March 20, is designed to educate citizens on the role of public safety in the community. Participants will meet each Thursday from 6:30 - 9 pm and will graduate from the academy on May 22. Two “hands-on” Saturday sessions will give participants the opportunity to shoot a variety of weapons at the police range, learn how to extinguish a fire, and become certified in CPR.
All Auburn residents, ages 18 and older, are encouraged apply for the academy and expand their knowledge of public safety. “This program will give the participants an opportunity to meet the police, fire, 911 operators, and codes inspectors that keep the City of Auburn safe. They will get a chance to experience a little piece of the public safety mission and hopefully take something positive away,” said Capt. Will Mathews, Auburn Police Division.
Residents interested in this year's academy are encouraged to apply early as class size is limited. Applications are available at the Auburn Public Safety Department located at 161 North Ross Street.
