On December 14, 1819, Alabama became the 22nd state in the Union following a three-year process beginning in 1817 when it formed as a territory.
On December 14, 2019, the state of Alabama celebrates its bicentennial birthday and Auburn wants to ring in the next 200 years by celebrating our rich heritage and culture.
The Alabama Bicentennial Commission, based in Montgomery, declared that each of the years leading up to the bicentennial date would follow a theme. These themes are:
2017 - "Exploring Our Places"
2018 - "Honoring Our People"
2019 - "Telling Our Stories"
Each of these themes showcases and highlights the history of Alabama and allows for a segue into the next 200 years of our state's history.
The Auburn Bicentennial Committee will be accepting applications for endorsement of events, activities, programs and projects for the remainder of 2018 and through December 14, 2019 now through Friday, August 10. Endorsed events will be contacted via email. To learn more about having your event, activity, program or project endorsed by the Auburn Bicentennial Committee, please visit the Event Endorsement link under Related Links at the bottom of this page.
