Auburn, Ala. - Join Auburn Parks and Recreation's new 50+ Speaker Series on the second and third Thursday of each month from 10 - 11 a.m. at the Harris Center. Speakers will present on a variety of age 50+ topics for all interests. The program is FREE for adults ages 50+. Light refreshments will be provided.
Each month, local experts on a variety of topics will share their knowledge and answer questions for participants. Topics range from hobbies and special interests to long-range planning and healthcare issues. Upcoming speakers include:
Thursday, Sept. 26* | Ceramics & Pottery
Cari Philen, Art Education Specialist for the City of Auburn, will host a talk on ceramics and pottery programs offered through Auburn Parks and Recreation. Come discover a new hobby and learn all about the techniques involved in creating your own clay pieces.
Thursday, Oct. 10* | Health and Medication Monitoring Service
Kathy Kyle from the Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University will provide information on their health and medication monitoring service offered to senior adults free of charge.
Thursday, Oct. 24* | History of Photography as an Art
Hank Siegel will present a talk on the History of Photography as an Art. Following the discussion, participants will tour the exhibition at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center.
Thursday, Nov. 14 | Evaluating and Appraising Antiques
Ray Sankovsky will provide instruction on how to evaluate and appraise antiques, including hands-on activities!
Thursday, Nov. 21 | Importance of Advance Planning
Bill Trant of Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home will talk about the importance of planning ahead and the financial decisions that will affect your family.
