Municipal Tree Ordinance (City Ordinance #1875)
The Municipal Tree Ordinance recognizes the value of urban trees and deals with tree maintenance and protection. It also provides guidelines for the removal, relocation, alteration, planting, and replacement of trees on or near public property, as well as establishing the duties of the Tree Commission.
The purpose of tree standards in the Zoning Ordinance is to cover tree planting requirements for development and redevelopment on commercial and residential property. It specifies how many trees shall be planted during development or redevelopment, which species shall be planted, and how existing trees shall be protected. Tree standards in the Zoning Ordinance are regularly reviewed by the Tree Commission to verify that they meet current standards and the needs of Auburn's environment.
