Each year, the City of Auburn selects a focus area within the city limits and dedicates time to spruce it up — making repairs and performing general maintenance work. The Love My Block initiative, formerly known as the Neighborhood Cleanup Project, allows City staff to work with residents to beautify and nourish Auburn’s neighborhoods. Born out of the Environmental Services Department in 2011, the project fosters strong collaboration between City departments, including Auburn Fire, Public Works, Environmental Services, Engineering Services, Water Resource Management and Auburn Police.

Staff work closely together to complete improvements including:

  • Inspection and replacement of worn street signs
  • Collection of bulky/yard debris placed out by residents
  • Identification of overgrown grass and other issues that may affect the appearance and safety of the neighborhood
  • Inspection and painting of fire hydrants
  • Repairs to curb, gutter, sidewalks and streets
  • Mowing and trimming of vegetation along the right of way
  • Litter abatement
  • Storm drain marking

Focus areas are selected annually and include neighborhoods not managed by a neighborhood homeowners association. Each year, focus areas are kept at comparable sizes, not exceeding 200 acres.

2025 Focus Area

The 2025 focus area includes the neighborhoods along Lakeview Drive, East Magnolia Avenue, Green Street, McKinley Avenue and Old Mill Road. View a map of the focus area.

Work will be conducted throughout March, and staff will be in the area to promote Love My Block the week of March 31-April 4. If you live in the area, look for our tents, say hello and grab some supplies to help with your own spring cleaning!
