Garbage Frequently Asked Questions
Bulk/Yard Waste or Trash

Trash includes, but is not limited to, appliances, grass clippings, leaves, limbs, furniture, vines and weeds. It does not include garbage, construction material, dirt, hazardous waste, rocks, roofing, etc.
Trash is collected on the same day as your garbage collection. To prevent interference with the collection process, trash should be placed at the curb (not in your green garbage bin) at least three (3) feet from the curb/roadside and away from poles, mailboxes, storm drains, utility boxes, vehicles, etc. and not under utility lines.
Trash Frequently Asked Questions
Recycling

In 1987, the City of Auburn became the first municipality in the state of Alabama to introduce curbside recycling services to residential customers. In 1999, the Recycling Drop-Off Center and Compost Demonstration was established to provide citizens the opportunity to recycle 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For residents that subscribe to the City's garbage service, recycling is collected at curbside on your regularly scheduled collection day.
The Recycling Drop-Off Center has temporarily moved to 640 Mary Brooks Drive during the construction of the Boykin Donahue Campus project, which is expected to finish in fall 2026. Once construction is complete, the Recycling Drop-Off Center will move to its new location on North Donahue Drive across the street from the former location. The center is open 24 hours a day year round.
Our Document Shredding Event takes place two times per year (Spring and Fall). Our next events will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, and Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Environmental Services Complex located at 4277 Wire Road, Suite 100. River Mill Data Management will provide secure, onsite shredding and recycling for Auburn solid waste customers.
